Unlimited cloud storage can actually be your memories’ worst enemy, causing your digital photos to skyrocket in numbers and end up falling into a void of oblivion. The idea behind the Polaroid Lab is that it turns your most precious smartphone photos into tangible Polaroid photographs – bringing them into the world as something you can hold in your hand and store on the fridge door rather than in the cloud – Oskar Smolokowski, CEO of Polaroid B.V.

Bad news for pixels - Polaroid Lab transforms your smartphone memories into real Polaroid pictures

“Unlimited cloud storage can actually be your memories’ worst enemy, causing your digital photos to skyrocket in numbers and end up falling into a void of oblivion. The idea behind the Polaroid Lab is that it turns your most precious smartphone photos into tangible Polaroid photographs – bringing them into the world as something you can hold in your hand and store on the fridge door rather than in the cloud” says Oskar Smolokowski, CEO of Polaroid B.V.

The Polaroid Lab could not be easier to use. Users select an image from their smartphone via the Polaroid Originals app, before placing their phone facing downwards on the platform. When the red button is pressed, the picture is projected onto the film and then, using a combination of mirrors, light and the unique Polaroid chemistry, it is recast as an instant photo that ejects from the Polaroid Lab. After the usual development time, the digital image is now a fully-fledged Polaroid photograph.

Not only does the Polaroid Lab help make your memories permanent, the sleek white design is itself a statement choice for your home or office. The Polaroid Originals app lets you experiment with image collages and augmented reality features - giving you unprecedented creative control over your pictures before turning them into Polaroid pictures.

The Polaroid Lab and Polaroid Originals app supports iPhone 6S and newer with iOS 11 software and above, and Android 7 and newer with support for current models of Samsung, Huawei, Google Pixel and One Plus.

About Polaroid and Polaroid Originals:

Polaroid, founded by Edwin Land in 1937, is an icon of innovation and engineering. Polaroid cameras have inspired artists Andy Warhol, Helmut Newton, Robert Mapplethorpe, Maripol, Keith Haring and Guy Bourdin who raised Polaroid to the status of a cultural icon. With the introduction of the breakthrough Polaroid SX-70 camera in 1972, instant photography as we know it today was launched, followed by landmark innovations such as the original OneStep, instant colored film, and the Polaroid 600 and Spectra cameras and film formats.

In the 1990’s and 2000’s, the swift rise of digital technology eclipsed instant photography and Polaroid announced the end of instant film production in 2008. A dedicated group of instant photography fans called The Impossible Project stepped in to buy the last remaining Polaroid factory and since then have been the only people in the world making film for vintage Polaroid cameras. The acquisition of the Polaroid brand by The Impossible Project's largest shareholder in spring 2017, created the opportunity for Polaroid to return to analog instant photography and for The Impossible Project to declare mission accomplished.

Polaroid Originals is the new brand dedicated to reinventing analogue instant photography for the modern era. The brand’s launch on September 13th, 2017 marked the 80th anniversary of the founding of Polaroid.
