These photographs
have also served as a basis for rethinking urbanism,
seeing the city as a visual concept of the mind rather
than an entity specifically detailed by traditional
mapping. In the future, Vasconcellos would like to
continue to use the same techniques and equipment
to produce a similar artistic essay with night visions
of New York.

Cássio Vasconcellos:
Cássio
Vasconcellos was born in 1965, in Sao Paulo, Brazil
where he works and lives. Largely self-taught, he
has been a photographer since the age of 16. He has
been recognized internationally for his experiments
with numerous innovative photographic techniques and
styles. He has exhibited in museums and galleries
in Brazil and abroad, including Fotofest, Houston;
Kunstmuseum, Wolfsburg, Germany; the Museo de Arte
Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo; Mois de la Photo, Paris; Photographs,
Stedelijk, Museum, Amsterdam; and Tepper Takayama
Fine Arts, Boston. His work is in the permanent collections
of the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, France;
the Fogg Museum of Art, Harvard University, Cambridge,
Massachusetts, and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; among
others.
