"The Polaroid Book"
Joyce Tenneson, the award-winning and esteemed photographer described as "one of America's most interesting portrayers of the human figure," has made Polaroid instant photography a large part of her work. Since she was first introduced to Polaroid's vast film offering 20 years ago as a model for the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based film maker,

and as her photographic style - described as haunting, ethereal, pensive, mystical, and disturbing - has evolved and become uniquely her own, Tenneson has embraced instant photography and allowed its special characteristics to help shape and define her genius.

Tenneson's photography, much of it shot on instant 20x24-inch film and Polapan 35mm instant B&W slide film, commands a complex and intense emotional response from the viewer - a trait that has made Tenneson one of the most respected and sought-after photographers of our time. Since most of her work involves portraiture and some degree of nudity, she prefers instant film because it is "notably beautiful for skin."
