About Jim McHugh……
“A Valentine to Los Angeles!” is how the LA Times described a recent exhibition of Jim McHugh’s photographs that offer a unique view of the city’s rapidly disappearing visual landmarks as well as those which are still hiding in plain sight. “So often people mistake my pictures of LA for locations in Paris or Rome! There are so many beautiful places here that we never see because we are racing by in our cars. We simply don’t have time to look!” says McHugh.
Jim McHugh is a widely acclaimed portrait, architectural and fine art photographer. He has created award-winning portraits of celebrities, including a unique series of environmental portraits that have appeared on the covers of Architectural Digest.
His black-and-white photographs seen here are captured on Polaroid Type 55 Positive/Negative film. To McHugh it has been the perfect media for his personal projects. The prints range in size from 4” x 5” images to huge 40” x 60” enlargement.
Over the past few years, McHugh has dedicated much of his time to photographing the urban ‘built environment’ as a “vanishing landscape.” These evocative photographs have been exhibited at Louis Stern Fine Art, at Acte 2 Gallery in Paris, at the Pacific Design Center and ArcLight® Hollywood both in Los Angeles. A selection of these pictures received first prize from the International Photography Awards in 2004 and several are part of the permanent collection of the Cultural Affairs Office for the City of Paris.
