To
Luciano Franchi de Alfaro III, the photograph is often
just the starting point, an unfinished canvas begging
for attention and completion. So, too, are the nude
figures that usually populate his images. Unabashedly,
they stretch, stride and seemingly prance before the
viewer, singly and in tandem, offering their flesh to
the artist's brush, paint, pen or stylus. |

The
figures are carefully and dramatically composed. The
shutter is triggered. The moment captured. The emerging
Polaroid 20x24 instant photograph is immediately assessed
and the next phase of the artistic process begins. Luciano
applies an ink grid on the surface of the print perhaps
to reign-in the free-flowing gestures of his subjects.
At other times, he emphasizes the figure's outline by
scratching the print to present an eye-catching design
that resembles an aura around the body. |
