Anjuli
Ayers: I was first introduced to David
and his work during a history of photography course
a couple of years ago, and I was very much interested
in meeting and working with him and learning about
his photographic process.
Liz
Whitman: The photographer for whom I intern
recommended David's course. So, I researched his work
online and liked what I saw. I thought it would be
a really interesting experience to try shooting with
the SX-70 camera. And, let's be honest, who would
give up the chance to contort and distort a Barbie
doll for a week!
Polaroid:
What was it like working with David?
Anjuli
Ayers: I loved it! His process is so interesting,
especially how he uses focus and depth of perception.
I enjoyed how he experiments with Polaroid film and
pushes the boundaries of creativity.
Liz
Whitman: I really loved working with David.
It was so refreshing to see someone who does what
they truly love for a living. David is one of the
most enthusiastic people I've ever met. He was completely
supportive of my attempts to try some strange things
with the cameras and the toys. Even though he added
criticism and advice, I never felt like I was being
told what to do.
