Recall Information for Battery Pack of Select Portable DVD Players: Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I know if I have one of the recalled batteries?
Only battery packs with certain serial numbers are included in this recall. If you have a PDV-0700 or PDV-0800 portable DVD player, your battery may be included in this recall. Please look at the top of your battery pack and reference the serial number label. Check our serial number list to see if your battery pack is among those recalled based on the serial number on your battery pack.

2. Should I stop using the battery in question right away?
Yes, stop using the battery immediately. Disconnect the battery from your player. You can still use your DVD player by using the AC power adapter or DC car cord that came with your player. Just plug the AC power adapter or DC car cord into the DC jack on the player. The DVD player functions properly – this recall applies to the battery pack only.

3. Is there anything wrong with my portable DVD player?
Nothing is wrong with your DVD player. The recall only affects batteries sold with the two portable DVD player models referred to in question 1.

4. Can I use my DVD player without the battery?
Yes, the player will function properly and safely without the battery. Simply detach the battery from the player and use the AC power adapter or DC car cord that came with your portable DVD player.

5. How do I process a request for a replacement battery once I have verified that my battery’s serial number is included in the recall?
We ask that you call the Petters Consumer Brands’ toll-free support number at (866) 866-6292 anytime in the US and Canada to register for a replacement battery. Please have your battery serial number available for the representative to assure we can promptly serve you. Do not send your battery to Petters or the store where you purchased the portable DVD player without first contacting Petters support staff at the above number.

6. Can I get a replacement DVD player instead of the battery?
The DVD player sold with this battery is not defective and is safe to use, therefore the player is not affected by this recall and product exchanges are not an option under this program.

7. Can I get a refund?
Petter’s battery recall program offers a free replacement battery upon receipt of the old battery. Refunds are not an option.

8. How long will it take before I receive my new battery?
Once we receive your old battery, you should receive the replacement within 10 to 20 business days.

9. What is the likelihood of my original battery overheating? Am I in danger?
We understand your concern and that is why Petters Consumer Brands is initiating a voluntary recall of your battery in order to avoid possible overheating. Therefore, we strongly suggest you immediately disconnect the battery and contact us to participate in this recall. Your DVD player will still be useable by using either the AC adapter or DC car cord. Doing so will eliminate any cause for concern about any hazards.

10. How can I be sure that the replacement battery will not have the same problem?
The new replacement battery we will send you incorporates enhanced protection that prevents overheating during the recharging process.

11. What if my DVD player does not work when I receive the replacement battery?
Please be sure to follow the instructions provided for installing the replacement battery.
If your DVD player does not function with the battery properly installed, please call our customer support line at (866) 289-5168 in the U.S. or (866) 301-7922 in Canada.

12. What if my battery doesn’t exhibit the hazards described in the recall?
Even if you do not see symptoms, your battery may still be affected at a later date. Therefore, we strongly suggest you immediately disconnect the battery and contact us to participate in this recall. Your DVD player will still be useable by using either the AC adapter or DC car cord. Doing so will eliminate any cause for concern about any hazards.

Our customer service team is standing by to assist with your battery replacement. Please call toll free (866) 866-6292 anytime in the US and Canada and ask for information about our Battery Recall Program.
